Hello! I’m Alice! 

I am a short-haired black and white female of 5 years, as I was born on 02/05/21. I’m fit and well, have been spayed and microchipped but not vaccinated and am up to date with worm and flea treatments. I eat any wet food and have quite a relationship with food which will be explained below. My owner decided I would be happier in a different home because I’d not accepted the new baby in the home and displayed competitive behaviour around food with the other cat in my home.

I enjoy cuddles and strokes on my terms, but don’t like being picked up much. I’m known to be good with children, (9but am not happy around babies). I ived with another cat but we did fight sometimes over food. I don’t like dogs and prefer women and can be cautious around men due to negative experiences.

Additional Information

I’ve not shown any aggression to people although I can get very impatient for food. I’m house-trained and can be left in all day. I may have accidents while settling in and do better with 2 trays. I slept anywhere I wanted. I’d been in my recent home since I was a kitten and had been kept as a house cat so haven’t been outside. At the moment I’m not showing interest in toys but do like my outside area where I’m starting to relax and watch the world go by so access to a safe garden would be good for me, but I will need a good amount of time inside first so I know my home and feeding routine; going out into the big world too soon may lead to me following my nose rather than just exploring.

What the Ark says about me

Alice has been through a lot in the last few years and has some little quirks around attention and food. When she came to the Ark her need for food was so intense she came across very unsettled and angry, crying/vocalising loudly, hissing and growling and was very protective of her food. She has never physically been aggressive but gave off all the signs that she was feeling scared and vulnerable so has needed a lot of reassurance. Over the weeks she has settled into a good routine and is now much less vocal and protective of her food. However, Alice is still very reactive at mealtimes and around food she vocalises and may hiss if you take too long to feed her. She will also pinch and eat anything edible so her new home will need to ensure Alice isn’t allowed solo access to the kitchen or around food when people are eating especially during her settling in period when her insecurities will no doubt surface until she feels safe. We are introducing puzzle style toys to engage her mind a little and make treats last a little longer so she actually enjoys them!

Alice needs a very special home that will help her feel settled, She needs patience and understanding and, above all else, lots of love. She is very vocal especially at mealtimes and can swipe out to get her food but she is starting to enjoy a little fuss, especially if there are treats involved.  Alice’s behaviours are unlikely to change but hopefully will become less intense when she gains confidence that she will be fed regularly and she can actually relax and enjoy being a cat. A busy home with young children or long periods on her own won’t be right for Alice. A quieter village or rural home maybe be better for Alice as, having been a house cat all her life, she’ll not be traffic savvy. She would be happy as an only pet and the centre of attention.
