Hello! I’m Dennis!

I am a male crossbreed, am 5 years old as I was born on 26/03/21 and am a large black and light tan dog.

I’ve been neutered and I’m up to date  with my vaccinations, am fit and well and I eat James Wellbeloved complete dry food with chub roll for treats..

I first came into the Ark last October because of a change in my family’s circumstances, was adopted but have been returned because of my dog aggression and I’ve proved too strong for my new owners..

I originally came in with my female companion, Willow, who was laid back, but I’m more highly-strung and can be anxious. I was very worried when I first came into the Ark but settled well given a little time and patience. I like a cuddle and am normally fairly laid back but sometimes need my own space to chill. My recent owner stated that I love women. I got along well with Willow but haven’t lived with a dog recently and am unknown around cats. I don’t like strange men and other dogs and am probabvly wary of young children . I lived with a 3yr old child in my first home and needed space away from him at times, had barked at him but not snapped. I don’t like large crowds of people.

Additional Information

I’ve snapped on one occasion when somebody in a hoodie stroked me without warning in the dark and snapped once at Willow when she tried to pinch my food but I’ve only warned, never bitten. I can be aggressive towards other dogs, although staff at the Ark were told by my first owner that I’d settle if the other dog stood firm. I’m very anxious at the vets but fine at the groomers. I’m house-trained and have been used to being left several hours, slept downstairs and travel well in the car. I’m very good on the lead (see video below) and walk well but haven’t been let off due to my dog aggression, so my recall when out is untested but is said to be good in the garden. I love toys and am happy to play with them on my own, throwing them around.

What the Ark says about me

Dennis needs a home as an only pet and without children. He needs a calm home due to his anxious nature, preferably a rural or semi-rural one and certainly not an urban one where he’d come across multiple dogs. His dog  aggression is nervous aggression so he needs an owner with experience and patience with the ability to manage his strength if he meets another dog when out. It also seems he’d prefer a woman in the family mix. He’ll need time to settle into his new home with only gradual introductions to wider family and friends as he becomes anxious around too many people at once. He’s a great boy with people and just needs someone who understands his needs.
