Hello! We’re Balor & Bayley! We’re Dogs of the Month for November!
CAN NOW BE REHOMED SEPARATELY
We are brother and sister, are 8 years old as we were born in February 2018. We are the unusual cross of Alaskan Malamute and Pomeranean and are large dogs. Balor (male) is tri-coloured with white front legs and a darker face and Bayley(female) is black and tan. We’re both fit and well and are neutered and vaccinated, were vet checked and wormed and flea treated on 22/05/26 prior to admission. We eat Step up to Naturals grain-free food from Pets at Home and will eat anything as long as there’s no wheat in it. We’re looking for a new home because there was a breakdown in the pack dynamic with the other dog in our home and our owner was struggling to care for us as she has worsening health.
Balor is very playful and cuddly, while Bayley is more of a couch potato. We both love attention and to be made a fuss of. Bayley is more assertive whilst Balor is more likely to follow her lead. We’re close and don’t like to be separated. We’ve lived with our owner’s grandson since he was 6 years old and are good with children of all ages. We can be apprehensive of other dogs at first but can mix with them though not in a living situation due to issues with the French Bulldog we used to live with. We all used to get along fine but things have changed over the last 2 years. Bayley particularly is scared of fireworks and loud noises when on walks; Balor doesn’t like the noise of plastic bags. We both can’t stand cats!!
Additional Information
Neither of us has shown any aggression to people, nor do we have any food aggression, although we did towards each other when young but have now grown out of it as we’re fed apart. We’re wary at the vets but responsive and enjoy fuss made of us. We’ve never been to the groomers but enjoy being brushed, which is a good thing as we moult a lot! We’ve never been in kennels before but have settled well. We are house-trained and have been left 4hrs max. We slept under the stairs on a pile of blankets in our old home. It can vary but we generally don’t like car travel. We both pull on the lead at first but settle within a minute, haven’t been off the lead and our recall can be selective. We’ll both play fetch with someone but Bayley will also play on her own. We’ve been together since birth and are extremely close and will pine if separated so must be rehomed together.
What the Ark says about us
Balor & Bayley have been together all their lives and are inseparable. They are very good living together although we do separate them for feeds but they are always desperate to be back together again. They are an incredibly sweet pair and love atteantion and cuddles, getting really excited when they see someone is going to give them some attention or take them for a walk. Bayley is a little more dominant than Balor and tends to take charge. They’re good on walks, have been walked separately but also enjoy walks together. They’d be good for a family with older children who know how to give dogs space but can give them loves and playtime. There’s no separating these two without upsetting them so they come as a set and definitely have to be rehomed together.
Update 22nd October ’26
Bayley and Balor have always been inseparable but we’ve had no interestin them as a pair. We’re beginning to think these lovely dogs are going to need to go separately to have a chance of being rehomed. So, with this in mind, staff are training them by having increasing amounts of time apart, giving them quality time without their sibling. Bayley is doing really well and is becoming chilled out on her own (see new video).
Balor and Bayley have been with us since May and have already been dogs of the month, but have never had any interest. They’ve been together since birth and have always been very attached to each other and didn’t like being separated. We came to the conclusion that their best chance of being adopted was to offer them separately so, with this in mind, we had to get them happy to be separated.
We started very gradually for just short periods at a time, then progressed to separate walks and playtimes. Once they were comfortable with this, they spent the daytimes apart but were reunited for the nights and now we’re at the stage where they’re separated all the time but are in next door kennels so can still see each other. They’ve done very well and we’re almost there so feel we can start the process of rehoming them separately. Of course, if there’s somebody out there who would like to adopt them together, that’s still possible!
They now seem quite happy apart. Bayley will sit or lay and chill while Balor is more nosey and likes to watch what is going on. They are also walking very well separately too. They are lovely dogs and were together in their home all of their lives till their owner’s ill-health meant they had to be rehomed. They’ve been well brought up and are good with basic commands. If you think you could offer one of these siblings a loving home, please get in touch to arrange a meeting.
