Meet Blackie!

BLACKIE’S STORY

Queen of the cattery porch, thought to be in her late teens now but came to us in 2016 with a newborn kitten after having been straying for six months.

Blackie is full of catitude, likes her own company and definitely keeps the other cats in their place, and was released on site due to her feisty, independent nature. She’s happy to do her own thing in her own time and we have all learnt not to rush Miss Blackie as she will swipe you if you do!

As she gets older she secretly loves more attention, including the odd little nose boop and quite likes to jump into staff’s cars for a nosy round or a quiet snuggle. She is a sweet, loving girl at heart with those she trusts.

Although her hang out is usually the cattery porch, after a recent period of illness she has been encouraged to spend time in the cattery corridor through the colder months which she has taken too really well, especially at night when we set her up a cosy bed and she happily stays in nice and warm.

Blackie is in good shape for her age but has recently been troubled with growths in her mouth, she is under vet care and at the minute the growths are kept at bay with medication which shrinks them. They may keep growing and could cause her problems in the future, but for now her condition is manageable and doesn’t hurt her or affect her daily life or ability to eat, so we keep going and let her be our guide.

Blackie has quite a cheeky character: when staff need to write in their handover book she’ll hop up and sit on the book tapping the pen and rubbing their head to get attention, not easy to concentrate but super cute to share these moments with her.
