Meet George!

GEORGE’S STORY

George came into the Ark in March 2017 with his friend Lola due to a marriage breakup. They’d originally been rescued from a house when their owner died. He’s 5 years old now and has been overlooked for over two years. Whilst Lola was friendly and was adopted, George hid while he was in the rehoming cattery and shied away from visitors so has never been adopted.

We eventually released him onto the site to live alongside our other long-term cats where he palled up with Fizz. Wherever one was, the other one wouldn’t be far away and they could often be seen nuzzling each other. George seems to need the company and support of a stronger female. Tragically, Fizz died suddenly and George has been lost without her.

He’s still very shy and can be described as semi-feral by his own choice. He hovers around the office area or the staff room but will run off if approached by people and has always hated being picked up or even touched and very much prefers his own space. He’s quite mischievous and is always first at the gate in the mornings, waiting for staff to arrive and feed him. The trouble is, he won’t move so staff can drive in and get breakfasts out! By the time one of the staff has got out of the car to move him, then got back in the car, he’s back blocking the way again!

He’d had a new lease of life since falling in with Fizz; they liked to go ratting together and were very much partners in crime. He seemed much happier and to be enjoying his life at the Ark, as long as the humans give him the space he likes.  After all, what’s not to like from a cat’s perspective? He has freedom, feline companionship, hunting, amusement annoying his human carers and bed and food on tap! We just hope he finds a new friend soon.
