Hello! We’re Haribo, Sherbert & Kayli!
We’re all litter siblings, Haribo being the big brother and Sherbert & Kayli the little sisters. We were born and raised by our mum in an alleyway in Grimsby and taken in by Cats’ Protection, but they asked the Ark for help and we were transferred here. We’re approx 6 months old now and we’re all black, are fit and well, have been neutered/spayed and microchipped and are all up to date with flea and worm treatments, but haven’t been vaccinated. Food is a great motivator for us after the precarious life we led and we love our mealtimes and treats too. We’re currently eating Felix As Good As It Looks kitten food and Purina kitten biscuits, but staff are planning to transition us onto adult food so staff will keep any potential adopters updated.
Our mum taught us all the skills to protect ourselves; never touched by humans, we were extremely scared, very flighty and used our hissy button a lot! Calming our behaviour and building trust was top of the list and getting us to be calm and comfortable in the presence of humans has been a challenge for our carers, but we are getting there. We greet our humans now and don’t hide when they hang around to talk to us. The girls are accepting of a little stroke whilst eating but Haribo will tap your hand if you attempt a cheeky stroke. When settled, we’re all very playful masters of zoomies and love ping pong balls and toy mice. We’re quite vocal, especially if we think food is involved. We’re quite the cats’ chorus at times! We’re curious but do sit back and assess things first rather than rush in; if food is about we’re very brave and are known to knock bowls clean out of people’s hands in eagerness. We’re going to need plenty of time to learn to trust people but seem quite interested in other cats. We’re unlikely to like children, especially younger ones and dogs may or may not scare us too.
Additional Information
A special home is needed for us and we’ll need space and time to build bonds, so it’s now time for us to find our forever home to continue the next chapter of our lives and build trust in our forever family. We will need a quiet home, are not suitable to be around young children as we’re too timid and skittish, so could easily resort to scratching or biting if we felt threatened or overwhelmed by too much attention. A rural home with a good outside space, like a barn or secure outbuilding which we could make our own with an option of accessing indoors when we’re ready, or vice versa, would be great for us. Haribo is the most confident and does like to keep the girls in line, so we must be adopted as a trio. Other pets in the home would be considered depending on the situation and if we could have our own space for careful introductions. Humans scare us more than other animals and we are interested in other cats who appear outside our pen. A new home must accept that we are likely to revert to scared mode initially and become hissy little kittens again until we feel safe, so providing hidey spots and a feeding routine will help us relax. We’re very good using our litter tray and currently share a large hooded tray with no issues.
